Mdina and Golden Bay (October, 3)
On our second day we met our tourist guide for the first time, called Marie Odette, who showed us the city of Mdina.
Mdina is the old capital of Malta and is surrounded by huge and big walls of a fort. There is also a big moat around the city.
In medieval times Mdina was the seat of the government and an administrative centre. There are still many buildings of the last centuries like the Vilhena Palace (18th century) or the impressive cathedral. Throughout the city there are a lot of small and narrow streets with houses out of light yellow stones.
After our tour through Mdina we made a trip to the Golden Bay where we could relax a little from the culture of Mdina. The Golden Bay was used several times as a film set for movies like Troy with Brad Pitt.
The beach was very beautiful with its golden sand and the high cliffs around it. The tide was very dangerous because it drew us back into the deep blue sea and it was hard to swim and to get out of the water. All in all it was a wonderful day for everyone of us.

Blue Lagoon
Our last day on Malta was supposed to be a recovery from the exhausting intellectual challenges we had to face the days before. It all started early in the morning, with a quick breakfast and a rush
to the bus station.
Because of the low capacity of the Maltesian buses and the flood of tourists heading to the fairy terminal we had to split into three groups. The last group witnessed a great example of Maltesian temper, when the bus driver refused to take up a drunken Maltese, because the bus was full.
He could not obey the bus driver's decision and started yelling around, spitting at the driver and kicking against the bus.
After waiting an hour and driving 20 minutes, we finally arrived at the fairy, which took us to the smallest of the Maltesian islands, Comino.
The mostly uninhabited island of Malta, Comino, consists of a rocky and
craggy shore, and crystal clear blue water, which reminds of the Caribbean.
We mostly enjoyed the great weather and environment. The boat ride back to the main island led us along the coastal area of Comino with its great caves and bays.
Back at the hotel we tried to recover from the overdose of sun rays by numbing the pain with some “soda”.
It ended up with a nice sit-in at the hotel lobby and bar listening to Mr. Spielberger’s awesome piano skills.
